At the end of the novel, Lily is pregnant, though she hasn't told anybody yet. How do you imagine her child's future? Will it have two grandmothers on its father's side, instead of just one?

I imagine the child will have two grandmothers on that side of the family. This is really not so different as in divorces. My grandchild on her paternal side has me, Grandma and her Grandpa Dan’s wife is Grandma Mary. I am plain Grandma as her father is my son and I am #1!!

I agree mostly with Maggie on this. No child suffers from too much love!
I would think that the way that Jane chooses to involve herself will be the telling sign. She could choose to be just Jane or Aunt Jane, being that she and David are not married. I don't see her title as particularly important. I agree that Kate should have a little more status with Lily, if she wants it, in that she is her biological grandmother.

I think that Lily's child will benefit from all the love and support she will have.

Families come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Love is the connection. I think Lily's child will be loved and
that is the most important think you can wish for a child.

I feel this will be a non-issue. The three-party relationship will not work in the long run. Someone will get tired of sharing and everything will blow up. The real question is "who gets David?" And would that person be considered the winner or the loser???

I would hope that the child would love the extended family. We don’t know about Lily’s family so there may not be other involved adults. As someone said above, hildten in divorced families face this. As to the above answer about this not lasting, I think it may not but because of science.
