Hubert tells Ashleigh his mother said "The good Lord gave us all different talents." What were Hubert's talents? What were Ashley's? Did either of them discover new talents over the course of the book?

What are your talents?

Hubert was intelligent, ambitious, determined, industrious, and kind.
Ashleigh was responsible, open minded, non-judgemental, loving, brave, kind, and creative.

Ashley is warm and outgoing. She is comfortable being open and honest with her feelings, which creates a safe space for others to open up in, as well. She is very motivated and goes after what she wants, using her persistence to remove obstacles. Hubert is reliable and loyal. He has a strong presence that attracts others to him and chooses his words carefully so that his message bears weight. He stays focused on a goal and does not let anyone tear him down to dissuade him along the way.

Hubert was a loving, hard-working individual. He strove to do the best for his family, and later for those he met in the club forged to overcome loneliness. He became a wonderful spokesman for the group.
Ashley is such a warm person, reaching out to others and bringing out the best in them. She doesn't give up on her relationship with Hubert, even when he tries to shut her out. She was my favorite character.

Ashleigh is open and outgoing. Her energy attracts people.
Hubert is reserved but a good organizer, a take-charge person. People trust him.

I think Hubert and Ashleigh have many of the same talents, they are both loyal and hard working. They are both very kind and considerate. Ashleigh is outgoing while Hubert is more reserved, perhaps from a lifetime of feeling like a second class citizen.

Ashleigh faces her situation and goes on in life. She seats a good example for the others.
