Was moving on and trying to forget Rémy the right decision for Eva, or do you believe that she should have waited even longer to make sure that Rémy hadn't survived? Did Tatuś give Eva sound advice in telling her to start living her own life? Would you have moved to the United States with Louis even if you knew you would never love him like you did Rémy?

I was disappointed in this part of the book. Eva should have waited/she should not have moved. But this was the way the author chose to go - it was a captivating story.

I was actually surprised Eva continued waiting for Remy as long as she did. I thought her father was being realistic in trying to get her to move on with her life. So many people died during the war, and she knew it was likely Remy hadn't survived, that I think her conclusion was inevitable.

I'm not sure what I would have done in Eva's shoes, although I suspect I would have taken the cowardly approach and left the country as soon as I knew what was happening. I doubt I'd have stuck around any longer than necessary, much less remain in France after the war.

I think Eva's father knew it would not be healthy for his daughter to spend her life pining away for a man who most lively was killed during the war. So I think his advice was what he believed was the best for her.

With such uncertainty after the war, of course Eva needed to move on. One cannot wait for a hope or dream but live the life we have today. She is quite lucky to have found him so many years later.

Eva did wait, for two years! She had waited for Remy, had spent the time with her father, and promised him she would come back to life. I wasn't holding out any hope for Remy by that point. She was enjoying the time she and Louis spent together--the first time she seemed to be happy at all, even though not with the love she held for Remy. She did grow to love Louis though, so she found a new happiness in her life.

She thought he was dead so moving on was the right thing to do. Or she could have been like her mother and turned into a total whiner.

I think it was the right decisions for Eva. At that point, she really did think he was dead. In the book it said that she wanted a fresh start and I agree. She had been through so much. It was time to move on. I think Tatus gave her good advice. Would I have went with Louis? Possibly not. Quick fixes are not always the best solutions. Starting to "live her life" could have been about building a new life in France.

I think that moving on was the right decision. All indications were that Remy had died. Eva was a young women who had gone through so much. It was time for her to try to live her life.

I wanted Eva and Remy to reunite in Paris at the end of the war, but I think her father gave her sound advice based on all the loss. Also because of her father’s encouragement, she went to Aurignon to see if Pere Clement knew of Remy’s fate. Her father was very supportive of Eva and also offered comforting words about her actions regarding her mother.

Eva waited during a pre-technology time when information was scarce. Given the devastation and destruction wrought by World War II -- on both personal and global levels, it was difficult to make decisions.

Eva thought Remy was dead, so she did what she needed to do to get on with her life.
I think this was a good decision for her. I would have enjoyed knowing where Remy was all those years.

I think moving on was the right decision. She waited a while and he never showed up. She could have waited the rest of her life and what good would that have done? They didn't have the technology to find people like we do now. She needed to move on and apparently had a satisfying life.

Moving on was the best course of action for Eva. She believed Remy was dead and needed to continue her life. In the chaos following WWII, it was unlikely that she would have found Remy. As a result of all the pain Eva experienced in France, going to the US and leaving the sad memories behind her was a positive way to move forward with her life.
