Do you think there is a right way or a wrong way to react to such news? Why? Which reaction do you think would be most beneficial in helping someone get through a war?

RE: Eva and her mother react very ...

Mamusia doesn't understand the reality of Auschwitz. She thinks they can go there and get him out. Eva knows what Auschwitz entails and the fact that the odds are against her father's survival. Mamusia was reacting with emotion, and Eva with the facts. There is no right or wrong way to react. We react with what we know. Eva survived because she faced reality— the smarter choice.

Mamusia either can't or won't accept the reality possibly where Eva, the stronger of the two by necessity, must. There is no right or wrong way as there are so many variables as with these two characters. Their differences in age, experience, and their relationship with Tatus.
