What do you think was written on the note?

What do you suppose was written on the note C.G. Beaverton recovered at the end of the book?

He promised to tell her everything when they met up with Twain in the hall. So maybe that is what he put on the note, hoping she would find it in the boat.

Obviously something that made her happy but lonely because he was gone. I don't have the proper imagination for this type of book. I will be anxious to see what others think.

I think it was something that will lead to a sequel.

RE: What do you think was written on the note?

There are so many unanswered questions at the end of the book, that I suspect we will all find out, eventually, in a sequel or continuation of the story. My guess is that like his brother who was long thought to be dead then discovered alive, or somewhat alive, Dieudonne will reappear with an amazing account of event following the explosion. Perhaps then we will also discover what became of the mermaid. Jacques-Henri said only a whole-hearted mortal could undo her hold. Dieudonne did that when he resisted her song and was free of South, but did he follow her to free the others and become a prisoner himself? What plot was Ella alluding to when she called the river gods to their aid? And, is Twain's decision to use the river opener to return to South realy a choice to follow the mermaid or does he have some other motive. More questions than Matryoshka dolls here!
But Dieudonne was the one who sent messages in bottles, so the note has to be either from her dead lover (?husband) or he is still alive. Since her smile on reading the note is not a sad but a pleased one, and our last glimpse of her has her looking to the river, I suspect she knows he lives. And she is waiting as we must for the continuing story.

I also felt that she looked pleased and this was the perfect set up for a sequel--hope so !
