In what genre would you place the story of Sailor Twain?

Other than the obvious genre of graphic novels, in what genres would you place the story of Sailor Twain? Do you consider it a romance, tragedy, noir, fantasy, or something else entirely?

RE: In what genre would you place the story of Sailor Twain?

I consider it a fairy-tale. I contains the elements of fantasy, romance, etc. I was interested in the "true love, pure heart" aspects of being released from a curse or spell. Also, the way Capt. Twain's room was transformed by his obsession with the mermaid was similar to a children's book, the Salamander Room in which a young boy keeps a salamander for a pet. As the boy's room gradually transforms into the salamander's natural habitat, the child's awareness and knowledge of nature is increased.

I was actually thinking about this as I was reading. It seemed to have a lot of aspects of a Sci-Fi story, or a Fantasy story to me. A little folklore, some lessons to learn, and some other-worldly creatures and fun.

It could be classified in the genres of romance, tragedy, noir, tragedy, fantasy, and even historical elements that would allow a cross reference.

I would just put it into the general category of speculative fiction as it does seem to be a blend of different aspects to it.

Genre

I think that the genre would be fantasy/ science fiction with a bit of romance thrown in.

I would say historical fantasy noir. Some books need their own genres.

I would have to agree with that or just classify it as an explicit content graphic novel.
