The ending of the book balances a sense of loss with the possibility of new beginnings. What do you imagine Ana's future might look like?

I enjoyed how the book ended. I think Carmen would be a good guardian for Ana. Carmen was a loving person despite her "stuck up" ways. She couldn't save her daughter, but she can certainly "save" Ana.

I think Ana will succeed with or without Carmen's help. Ana would be thinking of what her own mother wanted for her as she grows.

I like the connection at the end. Carmen has lost so much and tried to control her life without success. I know Ana will succeed, I think it would be amazing if Carmen was able to be part of that life and grow into a family with Ana.

I would hope that Carmen would somehow be there for Ana, that they would have a bond. It brought the story full circle, Jeannete taking in Ana, then Ana coming to Carmen. It might help Carmen make amends for her failures with Jeannette. I did like the ending,

I would hope that Carmen would take care of Ana and be more attuned to this child’s needs.

I hope that Carmen will nurture Ana and provide a comfortable life for her, while teaching her to be strong and independent. Maybe she will understand the salt concept put forth by the title.

Ana will survive regardless, but Carmen taking her in was a help to Carmen - giving her another chance to raise a sensible young woman. Helping to let Carmen know that it was not her fault that Jeanette became an addict.
