The ending chapters were probably the better chapters for me. I was surprised to see that Jeanette
lost her battle with addiction and that her mother decided to purchase her home afterward. I didn't foresee either of those events happening.

The last chapter, when Carmen comes through for Ana. It gave me hope that Ana would get the better life she deserved, and Carmen could come to feel that though she couldn't save Jeannette, she could help Ana (and make up for the fact that she had Jennette call the police on Ana years ago.

The chapter called Prey...Thanksgivng dinner. What a disaster! The dinner certainly. The whole chapter as well. I found the chapter to be so confusing and disjointed. I suppose it is to reflect Carmen's life at this point in time but didn't have any significance to me or the story. Didn't seem to fit. The panther? What was that about?!

The last chapter, More then We Think. I was really surprised at how she found Jeanette’s mother, Carmen. I also had a lot of hope for Ana’s future.

joang, I totally forgot about the panther!!! Seriously, what was that about?

The most surprising chapter for me was when she killed her husband and later we find out that the daughter witnessed it. Yikes!

Totally agree with the above posts about the “ panther section” . I’m sure if I sat and thought about it I could come up with something ... but the problem is I just don’t want to bother. Which is a terrible way to approach it.

The last chapter surprised me the most. I was always hopeful that Janette would survive. So many secrets among so many generations.

The most surprising chapter was the one in which the grandmother killed her husband and we find out that Carmen witnessed the burning of the corpse.

Surprised may not be the ideal word - but the chapter with the Thanksgiving dinner and the large cat across the street. Carmen was much happier not being around Jeanette - so why invite her - out of a sense of duty? Then Mario showing up - then the large cat across the street - and not reporting it ???? Senseless chapter in my opinion.
