How does Cassandra's misreading of Isabella's life parallel her fears about how people will misread her and Jane's lives?

Isabella's relationship with John Lidderdale, the town doctor, loosely follows the plot of Austen's novel Persuasion. Were you surprised to learn of their romance? What obstacles did they face in being together? How does Cassandra's misreading of Isabella's life parallel her fears about how people will misread her and Jane's lives?

RE: How does Cassandra&#x27&#...

Cassandra realizes that others can misunderstand Jane's and Cassandra's own life, just as easily as she misread Isabella's. Cassandra felt she was helping Isabella when she pressed Isabella to live with one of her sisters. The two sisters were both involved in their own lives and did not share with each other or Isabella. Those sisters do not have a close relationship the way Jane and Cassandra did. I couldn't see Isabella or either sister being happy if they were forced to live together.

RE: How does Cassandra&#x27&#...

Cassie's overall concern and care for others becomes apparent in this situation. She reaches out to Isabella's sisters in an attempt to procure future security for Isabella once she leaves the Vicarage. It is obvious to readers - more so than Cassie, obviously - that these three women are very different in their make-up and may not be compatible living together regardless of what might appear best for them to Cassie. Likewise, Cassie believes that information about Jane's acceptance and then quick reversal of her decision to marry may harm her name and her fame or reader acceptance in the future when, in fact, Jane probably would not have worried about it nearly so much as Cassie. Cassie's life was devoted to looking after others, and in Jane's case, that went on even after her death. She does not appear to recognize that her failure to see the real situation surrounding Isabella may be similar to that surrounding her own concern for Jane and the Austen reputation.
