I haven't read a mystery/lawyer book in quite a long time so it was difficult for me to connect with this book. From the beginning, I didn't care for Lee-probably because I have nothing in common with her. I also quickly grew tired of the Tae Kwon Do parts at the start of the book which lessoned further into the book.
There are a couple of statements in the book that rang uncomfortable true about our court system in the United States. One, those that suffered from the disease of alcohol and drug addiction or those who were mentally ill were usually sent to local jails because "rehabilitation was a possibility, but punishment was the overriding objective." Sad but true. Two, "that the justice system worked moderately well but wasn't perfect." Our system in the US is not only not perfect but very little, if anything, is being done to improve it.
I would recommend this book as a light weight read for a summer vacation.
