Do you have a Dan of your own, someone who is an adversary at work, but whom you still greatly respect?

Lee and Dan, despite being enemies in the courtroom, have a strong relationship with one another. Even though they fight for opposite sides, it is obvious that they respect each other greatly. Do you have a Dan of your own, someone who is an adversary at work, but whom you still greatly respect? Someone who may be your friend if the situation were different?

I admired the working relationship of Lee and Dan. As seasoned professionals they knew how to get what they needed to win or in the very least how to lose with the least amount of damage. It was interesting reading how well they worked together. It made me wonder in real life if that type of relationship is common or a rare thing.

I tend to respect my opposites. I try hard to listen to them and learn from them. Occasionally they are able to change my mind and turn my opinion. I believe that it takes all sides and opinions to help a person grow. With that said, they do not enter my friend circle.

Politically I have many Dan's in my life. I love and respect them all, but politically we are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

My job was a little bit different. As a classroom teacher, collaboration was essential for what we hoped to accomplish. Additionally, we shared many of the same values with regard to helping kids and wanting them to learn. While our individual teaching styles may have varied, we were all working toward the same goal. Being adversarial would not have helped us to reach those goals. With a hostile political climate in public education these days, it was counterproductive for us to act as enemies toward one another. We needed a strong support system. Sometimes that was hard. Just because we worked so closely "on the same team" did not necessarily mean we all liked each other. And that is a bit different from Lee and Dan. I got the feeling that they really liked each other, in addition to respecting each other.
