Jeremy's love for Sam is deep, strong, and ultimately devastating. He continuously voices his worry that he will never find a love like he did with Sam. What was your first love like? Did it feel all-encompassing, like Jeremy's, or do you think you were too young at the time to truly understand it?

Ahh, first love, so innocent (maybe) and a learning experience. Mine was the boy down the street. He was tall, blond, athletic, a son of a doctor, and had a killer Mustang car. The only reason we stopped dating was because I moved with my family to the Philippines. It sucked. We tried to continue the relationship long distance but we were both young and moving on with our lives. I've always wondered if I hadn't moved what would of become of us.

I think every first love is 'all encompassing'. It is a new beginning - everything is exciting and new and fresh. Your heart has yet to be broken.

Ah...Bobby Maxwell are you out there??

Yes it did feel all encompassing. I felt like nobody had ever felt this way before. I thought the sun rose and set on Gene. I was DEVASTATED when he started seeing someone else. It's been 52 years and we both still talk occasionally and and wonder what if.....

RE: What was your first love like? Did it feel all-encompassing, like Jeremy's?

I can see now, 30 years after the fact that my first love was not the healthiest of relationships. At the time, however, I believed I would never find a love like Eric or feel the way I felt about him with anyone else. We were together through most of my years in college. I struggled letting go of him because there really wasn't a huge fight or anything that truly signaled an end. We just sort of slowly moved away from one another. I think this was one of the reasons I struggled letting go- -there was no real closure for me. But I also realize that many of the feelings taking.mytime wrote about played a big part too- -those and my immaturity. More than fearing I would never find another love like him, I wondered why he didn't want me anymore- -what did I do wrong? I continued to think of him, and his family often (I absolutely loved his mom). I recently learned that Eric died two months after his fiftieth birthday two years ago now- -I actually had a recent telephone conversation with his mother expressing my disbelief, sadness, and sharing with her my memories of him and his family. Learning he had died affected me more that I expected it to.

My first love was all encompassing and very unexpected. Decades later, it still exists and if it had happened to anyone else and they told me about it I wouldn't hesitate to tell them they were totally crazy. It's a magical and mysterious thing ...this thing called love. If I could bottle it....I'd give it away free for everyone.
