Although Katherine is committed to religious reform, when Henry dies she stops the archbishop from praying over him in English, asking that instead that they pray "In Latin. He would have liked that." Why do you think she does so?

Katherine knows that Henry is struggling with his decision to leave his early beliefs which are rooted in his upbringing in the Roman Catholic Church and she understands how tormented he felt about that decision. Thus when she is finally allowed to view the dead Henry, she asks the Archbishop to pray with her in Latin.

She has the last word after Henry dies. And out of kindness she asks that it be in Latin. Also it confuses the Archbishop regarding where she stands regarding religious questions. I did not think Katherine had the ambivalence that Henry was experiencing.

In spite of everything, Katherine had enough decency to provide Henry with the religious rites he would prefer. Speaks well of her character in spite of all he had put her through

Katherine knew that Henry hadn't really forsaken his Roman Catholic roots, except in the case of divorce. At the end she still cared about him.

Katherine knew how the king felt about reform. She had the fortitude to ask the archbishop to say the prayer in Latin.

I agree with Kathleenr. Katherine is a savvy player in the court and asking the ritual be performed in Latin, would; 1) respect Henry, and 2) help to dispel concerns regarding her leaning toward reformation.

I agree with Kathleenr and dianad. It was in Katherine's best interest to do so to confuse her enemies and out of respect for the King.

Katherine knew that, even with Henry's demise, she was still on thin ice. This was a safety measure employed to thwart her enemies. She may have done it as a kindness to Henry, knowing he was still catholic, but it was also an insurance ploy.
