Have you ever felt a situation in life pivot on a particular, perceptible hinge? What different forms can "the turn" take?

Kenneth Bonert, in his novel The Lion Seeker, creates a memorable character named Hugo Bleznick who says there is always "the twist." Mones conveys the same idea when Thomas mentions "the unexpected ninth in Duke Ellington's '‘Blue Ramble'" (151). Mones calls this small but crucial reversal "the turn" (151). Have you ever felt a situation in life pivot this way, on a particular, perceptible hinge? What different forms can "the turn" take?

I like to think about the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sliding Doors, where she her life ends up differently depending on which option she selects. For me, there were moments like saying "yes" to a job offer, moving across the country, getting divorced, that seemed hugely pivotal - but lots of little things as well that could easily have made my life turn out differently.

Many times- choice of college, decision to study independently abroad for a year without the confines of a structured program; New York City or Seattle as the place of residence after graduation; marriage, divorce, moves. Often permanent life-altering changes hinged on what may seem as split-second choices or decisions.
