How do you think the events of the book would be different if Diana had questioned herself more?

While waiting to hear if she'll see Hitler during her time in Berlin, Diana has a moment of self-reflection and doubt that startles her. How do you think the events of the book would be different if she questioned herself more?

It would be nice to think so, but there seemed to be an infatuation with Mosley and Hitler amongst many of the leaders and socialites . If Diana had been more introspective she might not have become the "woman behind the man" with Mosley, but she didn't strike me as someone who would just sit back and watch as events unravelled. she liked to be in the limelight. She liked attention and power. If she had been more self-reflective, would she have divorced her husband because of lust? Probably not. Would she have committed treason, doubtful. She was rich, beautiful, privileged and entitled, she was not self-reflective.

I think Diana was too enamored with Mosley to seriously question her beliefs. Her main objective was to get him to marry her. Once that occurred, she became his advocate and advanced him and his ideas anyway she could. Mosley was Diana's obsession. Yes the story would have been different but deep self-reflection clearly wasn't in her nature.

I don’t think Diana was a person for self reflection. Her main motivation in life appears to be attention and status. In self reflection Diana would be able to quickly rationalize any thought to best support the outcome she wanted. Diana wants what she wants and gets what she wants.

Diana was definitely the trend setter with Unity being viewed as the "silly" other sister. But Diana was so in the thrall of Mosley, it's difficult to see how the outcome could have been any different. This speaks volumes about how we can be captivated by the sheer charisma of someone overshadowing all rational thought. Frightening.

Had Diana questioned herself more, events would most certainly be different. Perhaps she would have seen through Mosley or protected Unity. However introspection doesn’t appear to be in Diana’s nature and it is precisely that lack of self reflection that brings about her downfall.

Diana's thoughts were ruled by lust - she was willing to leave her marriage and privileged life due to her lust for Mosley. I can't see her as a person who could or would spend time on self reflection

Diana would never question herself as she was the center of her universe. She wanted what she wanted. In her position she was the adored, beautiful socialite that everyone wanted to be with. Why would she question that!? She was a bored woman who felt that she needed to feel more...anything, She was so insulated that she was attracted to Mosley because in some circles he was up and coming- flashy and interesting. She was like a moth to the flame.

I do not think Diana questioned herself before she took some action or reflected on it after the act was done. Instead her motivation was to gain attention while remaining in her own world. The only exception to this was her desire to to gain the attention of Mosley and even her stable marriage to achieve this.

In the grand scheme of things I don't know that much would have been different for anyone other than Diana herself. Mosley would have continued his work with or without her, although his organization may have folded without the financial backing Diana helped obtain. But I think Unity would have been drawn to German fascism and Hitler regardless - it's the one place she felt appreciated.

Diana was so overcome with her “love/lust” for “M” that I’m not sure she could ever see straight. Had she questioned what she was doing and to what results (divorcing a man that loved her immensely for a man that wasn’t leaving his wife), she might never have gotten caught up in the BUF and raising funds for them. I think she was truly blinded by her feelings for Mosley.

I don’t think Diana was capable of questioning herself - she was so accustomed to being the “belle of the ball,” the beautiful sister who was spoiled accordingly. She certainly would never have questioned her feelings for Mosley. However, I don’t think she was too politically involved - I think she acted like she was because of Mosley. Then she was interested in her own endeavor - the radio stations. Basically, she was a self-centered, self-absorbed person

I so not think so. She may have slowed down Unity's love of Hitler, but given Unity's beliefs, I believe she would have found a way. These girls were selfish and not likely to listen other views.

I think that had Diana thought more about the consequences of her actions, rather than be driven by her lust for Mosley, at least her life and the lives of her children would have been different. Unfortunately, I think that Diana was too self-absorbed to think about others rather than just herself and what she wanted. Had she really thought about the life she had, her marriage, her children, she may have stayed in her marriage and not become involved in politics. I think that had Diana not thrown herself into the life she had with Mosley than perhaps Unity would not have become involved with Hitler.

Diana rarely thought beyond what she wanted. She was impulsive without any thought to the consequences of her actions. This affect her marriages, her children and particularly the role she played in the family dynamics. Her life would be quite different if she had ever stopped to think about the outcomes of her selfish behavior, her need to be center of attention at all times.

If Diana had been more reflective and self aware she would not have made the choices she did. She seemed to be very impulsive and driven by her desires not by her intellect. She would have seen the situation in a clearer way and may have protected Unity better.

Diana's entire goal in life seemed to be focused on winning the approval of M and the status it brought her. Her value system was self-centered and this skewed her thinking. She was not capable of viewing situations objectively or of seeing the bigger picture. Diana used those around her for her own personal gain without any feelings of guilt. The events of her life would have been very different had she allowed herself to question the ethics of those she was so driven to please.

The events of this novel would have been different if Diana were allowed to *GO TO SCHOOL* and have a real career. It's the bassackward Victorian ideals of Muv & Farv that make the real roots of the problem here. Sure everyone could use a little self-reflection, but Diana's path began with her outsized abilities and intelligence being constrained inside a genie's bottle of gender norms.
