Thinking only about the "tattle tale" aspect of Misty's report, it seemed very normal for a younger sibling. It's often a way to get even for what the older sibling has done from his/her position of power as the older child. Now... the glass sculpture part. The growing glass sculptures took me out of the story and were the only aspect of the book that did not appeal to me.

I believe she needed attention from her mother and her sister although her need and the attention was misguided.

Misty was upset. Her cousin had told her that her parents were separated. Her mom had only told her that her dad was working long hours. Her sister tells her she wants to leave home and move in with their aunt. She wants to strike out and so tells her mom about Peggy kissing the green glass man. Another choice if the girls had communicated with one another would have been to tell Peggy what was happening in the barn.

I agree with you Maggie on this one, she was upset. I also think Misty was really worried about what/who the green glass man was and hoping that her mother might be able to "fix" things. I also had to remind myself several times that Misty was 10, she's not an adult making these choices.

Most of us are saying the same thing. Misty was angry, upset and afraid. She felt the need to strike out at something and accomplished this by relating the event to her mother. I also had a hard time with the glass statues.

Yes, I agree with all of the previous comments. Typical ten year-old behavior...lashing out/tattling then regretting it later.

I think Misty was a very scared little girl and had found yet another way to get attention and security.

What I have to say would be redundant since I agree with what the other participants have said.
