Misty's idea of inner names includes memories and sounds, things remembered and lost. What does that mean to you? Can you think of anything that would be a part of your name? What do you think of the name your parents gave you?

I think that in this book, your name is your essence; and I believe our lives are like a quilt - not all the pieces are beautiful, but the quilt can be beautiful as a whole. Also, a quilt isn't finished until all the pieces find their place.

The fabric (pieces) of our quilt make us who we are. We must be mindful to never attach to just one piece of the fabric ;)

I was working on some shame and regrets of my past. It took me a while to realize that I wouldn't be "me" if those instances never occurred. No shame or regrets now...so happy to be who I am...all of it!

My parents gave me my actual name, but I created everything else.

There's a long history of names having meaning and power. Many cultures believe that you have a certain power over someone or something if you know their true name. I really liked that in the novel, one's true name included more than what people use to call someone to dinner.
