I found The Weight of Blood to be an excellent debut novel, with a well-crafted plot, realistic dialogue, strong character development and a conclusion that is not easily foreseen by the reader. I eagerly await her next novel!

I can't believe this was the author's debut novel. Very polished writing, as well as a great page-turner!

I really liked the southern gothic tone of the book, loved how it gripped me and held me enthralled. I found some of the author's choices a bit odd and I sometimes had trouble discerning between some of the secondary female characters.

It was an excellent debut novel with varied character development, a moody setting, substantial mystery and kept me engrossed from beginning to end.

I thought it was a very good book with a touch of gruesomeness in some of it’s depictions, The story line keeps you enthralled wanting more and more. It tells a disturbing story with some very graphic scenes that actually disturbed my sleep for several nights. All in all a very good story indeed.

I really loved this book. It kept me shirking my chores to sneak in a few more chapters. Beside the strong characters and riveting plot I enjoyed the imagery and stunning descriptions, for example:"The vines and underbrush greened and resumed their constant creeping, and the heat blossomed into a living thing, it's unwanted hands upon us at all times."

I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it to others. The atmosphere was part of the story and the characters were compelling. It reminded me of novels bay Wiley Cash and Ron Rash.

It was a very good book, but also a very disturbing one. I found myself thinking about it a lot whenever I had to put it down, turning over the potential outcomes for Lila and Lucy. The resolution wasn't unnaturally neat and tidy, yet all the big questions were answered (for the reader if not necessarily for Lucy.) And as others have mentioned, the author evoked the setting exceptionally well.

I enjoyed this book very much and couldn't put it down. I grew up in northwest Arkansas and know about these small towns hidden in the hills. The people suspicious of strangers or someone who isn't "normal." Lila was a stranger and beautiful. Cheri was "slow." Not good.
This is an amazing story for a debut novel. I wonder how long it took the author to write it and where she did her research?

I enjoyed this book very much. I loved learning about the background of all the characters- why they thought and behaved as they did. I would recommend this author.

I loved this book. Usually with a plot this "no wayish" that's exactly what I'm thinking. But I did not for once say that with this book. I really liked that it was written from different perspectives, although it took me a little while to understand the shifting time frames. This is the best book I've read in very long time.

This was a fascinating novel on a very important topic - sex trafficking happens in the U.S. far more than most people realize. Hopefully this book will raise awareness and inspire readers to change their communities.

This is the type of book I usually shy away from - Southern and written from an adolescent's view point, but I was pleasantly surprised at the readability of this book and very fine writing.

RE: Overall, what do you think of The Weight of Blood?

This book was well written, and either researched well, or the author is from the south. My family is from Evening Shade, Arkansas, and there are still pockets where the towns are still very insular and private. There are still many areas where people turn a blind eye in order to keep themselves safe, and where stills are not uncommon. People identify themselves before approaching private property, so they don't get shot at. This book showed an awful side of life that probably has and sometimes still does exist in parts of not just this country, but many places. It's something most of us don't want to face, and that is why I think it was somewhat difficult to read. I wanted to read more, and at the same time I was afraid of what I was going to read. It felt real though, and the language and actions also impressed me as real.

I thought it was more of a young adult fiction book. It's kind of lightweight compared to someone like Ron Rash in "One Foot In Eden".

I enjoyed the book. It was a good read and kept me interested throughout. I thought the setting of the novel was almost like a character. It helped explain the motivations and actions of the main characters.

I think the book was very well written. It drew you into the story and kept the mystery alive until the last portion of the book. It's hard to believe that this is the author's first book. I can't wait to see what the author has planned for her next novel.

I enjoyed the book from the first page. It flowed from the moment I picked it up. I can't wait to see what she writes about next
