Laura's parents insist on pulling her out of the maternity home early, against the doctors' advice. Why do you think they did this?

I think it had a lot to due with their knowledge that Laura really wanted to keep her son and the more contact with him she had, the harder it would be to leave him. They definitely didn't want to bring that baby home. I was horrified at their disregard for their daughter's health.

Laura's parents wanted her "to forget this ever happened". Great title for the book. Also, they wanted her to leave the home against her doctor"s advice, thinking she would not have enough time to bond with her son. They misjudged her at every turn.
Also, they risked her life with this move, showing they cared more about their image than about their daughter. Maybe a sign of the times but caring parents would have taken a different route.

I think Lauren's parents were motivated the most by ending the lie about where Laura was as soon as possible. I also think they didn't want Laura to get attached to the baby so she would make their life miserable about always talking about it and sharing her disappointment with others. The fact that Laura was not healthy enough to leave made their decision even more appalling. As larryandcarols stated: this highlighted the title of the book!

Laura's parents were not concerned about what Laura wanted; they thought Laura could not possibly know what was best. The parents definitely did not want Laura to bond with the baby, and also, the longer Laura was gone, the tougher it would be for them to pretend she had simply been with thew grandmother. Finally, as other readers have mentioned, the parents mistakenly thought that once Laura was home she would start forget[ting] this ever happened.
