What in your life experiences or interests led you to write this book?

RE: If you could ask the author one question, what would it be?

I was interested in his perception of "expats". I could not tell if he was belittling those who choose to or have to live abroad or what. I have participated in a number of volunteer opportunities in a particular area of Mexico, where there is a large expat community. While there are many who play cards or pickle ball and over post on social media, there are greater numbers who volunteer in numerous organizations, give to many causes, and are perfectly comfortable wearing yoga pants and flip flops. (Yes, I realize that Mexico is much different than Europe.)

I would ask if he really feels about the expat women the way he portrayed them through Kate- -better than them because she (he?) is not "hash tagging", having affairs, getting trashed at parties and spilling private business. Even the weekend trips throughout Europe and tennis playing come across to me as somewhat snobbish. And what about Kate's point of shopping in the small markets instead of big box stores?? Pavone did not make me more likely to want to live in Europe.

How does Chris Pavone REALLY feel about those who live abroad????

In The Paris Diversion, it seems like the women were the only people that could get things done. In general the men botched things up or were otherwise rather clueless. It's rare to find a male writer who allows his female characters such power. Who were the strong women who influenced how you developed the female protagonists?

What has he done to prepare himself before writing the strong female sections of the book to ensure authenticity?

Because I am curious to know whether Chris Pavone intends to write another sequel to these two (The Expats and The Paris Diversion), I would ask him: What will your next book be about?

The author will actually be speaking at a reading festival in my community in March, so I may have an opportunity to ask a question, or one of the above (all excellent questions!). I would probably ask how long it takes him to write a book, what his writing process is like, how he gets his ideas, and/or how much research he does.

I want to echo vickys's question, adding, who is/are your model/s for Kate Moore? In other words, when your character, Kate, speaks to you, whose voices inform what you hear?

[Spoiler alert]
Why did Kate give Julia all the money at the end? Why trust her after the diabolical planning that led to the end of the book?

I would wonder about the writing process of such a detailed and complicated plot. There are so many themes in this novel, not the least of which is the strength of women. What was the main message the author was trying to convey.

Why couldn't one of the characters had some redeeming qualities?
