The twitching ovary

Why is this motion included in the novel?

RE: The twitching ovary

I liked the inclusion of the twitching ovary in the novel. This image seemed to tie in with the theme of "her" being nature and earth, the beliefs of Granma, and the ladybug behind Margie's eyes.

This also links back to the motherhood theme, as the egg is half of a child and Margie's so maternal and protective of those in need.

RE: The twitching ovary

This appeared to be a ridiculous idea to me and trivialized the book's message.

I agree with ritah. I think that having the character having a twitching ovary is totally stupid and I don't see any reason for it. Totally dumb!

RE: The twitching ovary

I did not think the twitching ovary offered anything to the story line. It's a silly notion.

RE: The twitching ovary

I thought of the twitching ovary as Margie's intuition. Thinking of it this way made sense to me. I kind of liked the visualization. Also a way of foreshadowing.

Did not like it and do not think it added to the story. (Did not like it when I read the synopsis.) The 'something missing' theme had similar message but resonated much more clearly.

RE: The twitching ovary

I agree with Sandra and Lisa, as it seemingly was her body's signal that an action or reaction was positive, good, or a sign that she was headed in the right direction...a compass, so to speak. I thought the twitching ovary was Brown's way of letting the reader believe that there was hope, a spark so to speak, that Margie could overcome her motherless childhood and become a loving, caring, and fulfilled mother...Symbolizing that inside of Margie, was this ova, alive and waiting for the time when she would be or could be a worthy mother.
Brown, I believe, had a solid reason for including this action in her work, and to me, it was not a silly or pointless notion/action.

I did think it was interesting but unnecessary. Frankly, if I had a twitching ovary, I would be running to the doctor's!

RE: The twitching ovary

I think the twitching ovary was her body reacting to a situation. It wasn't really necessary to the story, but gave us an idea of what she was thinking.

RE: The twitching ovary

I loved the twitching ovary. Doesn't everybody (woman, I mean....) have one? It's just another allusion to gut instinct---which, by the way, is one of the most powerful instincts around. Doubters need to start listening to their body parts more closely!

I liked the twitching ovary too. I think it just shows her compassion and empathy for others.

RE: The twitching ovary

I felt the "twitching ovary" was an over used and unnecessary expression.
