Did you find any of Lydia's actions out of character?

The fact that Lydia allowed Luca to continue to wear his red hat throughout the journey surprised me. She showed such caution along the way like not taking their car and in the hotel. Did you find any other actions on her part that seemed out of character of being so careful about getting found?

Lydia continued to converse with Javier like nothing had changed even after she knew who he really was from what her husband told her. This seemed far fetched to me.

I think it was completely insane that this woman would continue to be “friends” with this man after she learns what he is and she even seems to think that everything known about him is not an indication of what kind of person he is. This is like a horror movie where you know that the main character should not go into that dark cabin in the woods even though they know there is an escaped convict with an axe in the woods. Seriously. Too ridiculous for words.

I wondered if Lydia had abruptly ended her "friendship" with Javier would she have suffered consequences. Javier made his feelings known to her. Could he have threatened Lydia with harm against her family if she had rebuffed his friendship- -before he actually DID harm her family? It is possible, knowing how Javier felt, that Lydia believed continuing their friendship would protect Sebastian.

But WHAT WAS SHE THINKING when she picked up Lorenzo's telephone outside the cave- -so close to the rendezvous point with the RV- -and called Javier on the telephone??? All I could think of was that Lydia's holding up of the group at that point in the journey (to call her family's killer no less) was going to jeopardize the safe arrival all of her fellow travelers. They were all going to get caught because of this unnecessary and stupid action. She took so many precautions- -leaving the car, not using a bank machine, securing Luca onto the train with canvas straps but then called the man who was hunting her??? No way!

I thought several of her actions were out of character, but then again the whole escape was out of character.
Once Lydia knew the truth about Javier I don’t know how she could continue to speak to him, I was also surprised here husband didn’t try harder to stop their friendship.
Lydia was a very cautious woman yet she and her son risked death each time they hopped a moving train.
Using Lorenzo’s phone was so incredibly stupid after she had come so far.
These inconsistencies didn’t make the novel less believable, it seemed to just show that desperate times make people act out of character.

Using Lorenzo’s phone to talk to Javier seemed unnecessary and slightly out of character for Lydia. That struck a dischord for me. The fact that she took time to distance herself from Javier and did not believe her husband’s article would be lethal was understandable. Who knew his daughter would kill herself over it? If Lydia had known that would happen, the story would have been different.
