I did learn a bit more why controled burns are needed to prevrnt forrest fires and how to much underbrush is dangerous. I felt that the author was trying a bit to hard to "teach" about climate control in the book. When an author tries to hard to include issues like climate and immigration it can distract from the plot. Everyone a fire was going to occur

I did learn more about the interconnections of the natural world and how to sometimes it needs to be contained by damaging or destroying parts of it like the need for contained forest fires and in addition how some natural beings like the pine beetle can be of assistance. The author did provide these lessons in a direct way and it was necessary part of the book because the focus of Cadie’s academic research

I also learned a lot about the necessity of controlled burns. In my case, I found the author's level of detail helpful as it was something I knew almost nothing about!

As an educator, I learned a lot about the beetle and the connection to forest fires. The description of the New Hampshire forests was so detailed and lyrical...I loved it . We are all tightly woven together but the selfishness of some are ripping those connections apart.

I was reminded how fragile our forest and their inhabitants are and how we need to be more responsible.

It was interesting how the beetle was thought to be evil and yet as the book progressed, maybe it wasn't. Maybe it is an important way for the earth to take care of itself. Made me rethink some of my preconceived ideas about how nature works and our part in it.
