The author wove beautiful details into the setting for Waiting for the Night Song, including Ice Age glaciers dropping chunks of granite on the forest floor. As you read the book's closing paragraph, what did you predict for the future of Cadie's world (and ours)?

Cadie hears the thrush which helps restore the burnt woods. She realizes the woods will be reborn. I think Cadie will continue to do research and find answers to help retain our planet. Cadie will be able to let go of the past and move into her future, unencumbered by the secrets of her past.

I see a very positive outlook. Cadie had a feeling of starting over and using her past to create a new and bright future.

It left me with a feeling of hope and that good can emerge from a tragedy.

I think Cadie has finally become comfortable with herself after a lifetime of feeling like an outcast, or at least, living on the edges.

I agree! I felt like there was hopefulness in the ending on a global scale (with environmentalism being taken more seriously, hopefully) and also on a smaller scale with Cadie being more sure of herself in both professional and personal environments.

It’s definitely a paragraph filled with hope for Cadie as she sees the new growth of a forest. I don’t feel so hopeful about our planet, unfortunately especially after the last few years of a government determined not to believe in climate change and its devastating effects on our planet.

Ir provide me with a feeling of hope for the environment and hope for Cadie to pursue her research and dreams and hope for others as the pursue to preserve the planet.

I, too, finished the book with a hopeful feeling, both for Cadie's professional and personal growth. People were beginning to take her environmental research and theories seriously. Personally, I believe that not having to deal with devastating secrets any longer, was a huge weight lifted off her shoulders, and she can let go of her fears that she had been living with for all those years.

Yes Amber H! I also feel like she ended up with the fireman. I also feel like after facing her past she came back stronger. She was already motivated and now she is more confident in herself and the difference she is making in the world.

Not a prediction but "I hope so!" Right now I don't see any of us that strong!

As the forest was to be reborn so was Cadie.

I think there is hope. The forest will come back from the fire and Cadie has a chance to have a life now that the fear and burdens she has carried for years are gone.
