The cover almost lends itself to an optical illusion. What do you make of the seemingly " hidden" birds?

I have a friend who writes self-published mysteries. She spends a lot of time and attention to the cover that the publishing company she uses selects for her books. After seeing the book jacket for The Lovebird, I understand why. The Lovebird cover is striking, demanding that it be picked up and the book within examined. It's that 'first impression" we seek whether it be of books, of any merchandise or even of people. i could look at this one over and over and read a different meaning into it each time. It's one of my favorites. The birds, yes, the hidden birds..........how indicative of the hidden parts of Margie's life, of her longing to know all about her mother, to be close to her father, to know about the lives of those with her in H.E.A.R.T. and finally to delve into the lives of Grandma, Jim and Cora. Those birds, to me, represent the hidden lives Margie wants to learn more about and even more the hidden parts of her own life. A good choice for this novel.

Thank you all for such insightful and though provoking comments. I am guilty of letting a cover choose me, and most of the time the contents don't disappoint. Someone commented that love birds are always found in pairs. That was an intriguing idea, as I initially spy three birds...my thoughts were that these represented Margies' periods of growth. The "endlessness" of the cover is like life itself, always changing. For our leading lady, this was so important, to change and become who she seemed so destined to be...a real mother...someone/something she lost at her birth...
To bring me back to where I started, had I read the novel's inside cover synopsis, I might not have chosen this novel to read, but that beautiful cover snatched me in, and I was so happy it did:)

I haven't started reading the book because I am finishing another one for my book group, however, I wanted to post something about The Lovebird since I will be reading it next. I actually love the cover. I think it is very interesting and I like the colors. I would probably choose to read it because of the cover because it grabs my attention. Since I haven't started to actually read it yet, I am not sure if what is on the cover has any significance to the story itself. I notice that a bird is repeated several times on the cover but I don't think it actually looks like a lovebird.
