Do you agree with Eema's mother's view that

Eema's ghost relays a conversation she had with her own mother, who told her, "You cannot rescue what cannot be rescued. You cannot save what cannot be saved."

What do you suppose she meant? Do you agree? How hard should we try to save others? When is it time to give up?

I tend to agree that in some circumstances there is only so much anyone can do to help. Love and compassion and empathy are sometimes just not enough to save someone. Free will is a right that is often at odds with the good intentions of others.

You need to want to be rescued, you need to want to be saved. I believe we should try to save others but also know when it is time to back away.

I believe that unless a person is willing to be helped through support, understanding and love they cannot be completely rescued but being a little optimistic maybe with this support there will some improvement and hope.

I agree that unless a person is willing to put in the work and is willing to accept guidance and support they will not change no matter what others do for them.

I also agree that you can only help those who want help. For some people, they simply refuse to accept or even want help for whatever their reason(s). There isn't anything anyone can do. It's a valuable and wise saying - otherwise, it can be incredibly frustrating and an exercise in futility.

I agree -- no matter how much you may want to rescue someone, nothing is going to happen unless they want to be rescued.

One does need to be willing to seek help. Rachel is seeking help. At the same time, though, she is reluctant to open up to the doctor and allow him to see what is really troubling her.

I agree to a point but you should still try when possible. You never know what intervention , love- knowledge-external change, can make a difference.

Yes, ultimately a person must want to save or rescue themself. If they are not invested in the effort, it will fail.

Yes, I agree with this. You can be there to guide and aid someone, but ultimately they have to be responsible for saving themselves in certain situations, and only if they desire to be saved.
