Did you find any incidents in this book unbelievable or confusing?

There were several for me. One minute Anna can't make a coherent sentence, and the next she uses the word "integrity" when her long lost father shows up.
Another was Eve who allowed herself to be spineless and take on additional jobs as cook, cleaned AND the person who ironed shirts. She never questioned aa anything Eric tells her to do. He kept telling her he advertised, but no one applied for the cleaning job. She believes him.

Yes. I felt that way with Anna often. She says "caffeine drink" but not coffee. Why is caffeine so much easier to recall than coffee? I imagine the word caffeine came into her vocabulary later than the word coffee. I often felt the word problems were created for effect and not for reality. I think the author was going for a cutesy theme with the word loss - and it didn't work well.

As for Eve, she was wealthy and ran a big household. Are we to believe she would be reduced to spineless jelly and let Eric, obviously shady, push her around? I didn't find it believable.

Yes, I agree with Frances on this -- I find it hard to believe that Eve let herself be pushed around by Andy and i found it hard to believe that she knew how to clean and cook for a group of people that needed special food. Assisted living homes are governed and are inspected and I don't see any way someone would be handed a broom and a bucket and told to 'go clean the rooms'. These are requirements and protocol that must be followed to meet regulations. That said, it would have bogged the story down but there was never a mention of being trained or learning the job.

I was a bit confused about the time frame. As I have had no close relationship with someone differing from dementia, I'm not sure about the vocabulary but I sure find it hard to recall word sometimes the descriptors are easier than the word. As to the cooking question Eve really needed a job and was affected by the death of her husband. I found it odd that the managers of the home did not check more often and wondered about that manuel.

Eve's accessibility to Anna. On her off hours. I would think the nurse would find this odd. I agree with everyone concerning Eve's spinelessness with Eric.

I found it very odd how Eve took it upon herself to make decisions for Anna. Moving her into Luke's room when she thought it was safe. And no one seemed to think it was wierd that she took Anna's journal.

Weird and outrageous. Eve took it upon herself to make decisions for this patient. Eve was the cook and cleaner. Maybe this explains part of why she had no clue what her husband was doing. She was as shallow as her "friends" and wanted to live life however she chose, regardless of reality or other people. I think sleeping with Angus on the first date explains a bit about her character, too. She wants what she wants and just barges ahead.

I agree that Eve's accessibility to Anna and other patients was unusual. Also unusual that Luke and Anna could wander around- even up to the attic- without anyone paying attention. Considering that all of these patients had some form of dementia the safety precautions were practically non-existent.

I agree with Susanr on several items concerning the facility where Anna was. I have had close family members in assisted as well as Alzheimer facilities, and remember how it was researched to find the right place that not only seems warm and friendly, but also had a good rating. There are strict guidelines to follow that include hiring a kitchen crew with knowledge of special diets, etc. as well as providing a safe environment with knowledgeable employees who follow safe practices. Anna's place seemed sorely lacking in so many ways.

I also found it odd that Eve was cook and cleaner without training and made decisions for Anna and got away with it. Eve seemed to do things without regards to consequences and boundaries.

I wonder if Eve decided that she would throw caution to the wind. She had lived her life by the rules and it availed her nothing. Her husband was a criminal and a suicide, she had no friends, her daughter was bullied. Being "good" did not serve her well so why not do whatever she wanted? That may be why she gave up on consequences and boundaries.
