The novel ends with Wesley and Dennis, "father and son" beginning a conversation. In your opinion, how will the events that unfolded after Wesley's return to Black River influence that conversation? What do you think the novel suggests the future holds for the two men?

I hope the two men continue communication, hopefully a friendship will form. May they navigate a path of forgiveness and focus on the present and future, in memory of the woman the both loved. With their history and fractures unhealed could be a bumpy road, could go either way.

The two men have many stories to share if they can just sit and listen without prejudice.

Now that Claire is no longer there, Wesley and Dennis have only each other. The book does end on a hopeful note, leaving me to speculate they can somehow move forward as the only family each of them have and with some kind of relationship.

I felt it was a positive ending. Both Wesley and Dennis are complex men that have a lot of baggage. Maybe by Wesley letting go of what happened with Bobby Williams and Dennis having to let go of Rio, they can get beyond some of that and go back to some of what they had when Wesley was trying to teach Dennis how to play the fiddle. I think another book telling that story would be interesting.
