Does Nora's "stubbornness" account for her resilience? Have you found the greatest successes in your life from being stubborn or from being flexible?

At one point, Nora responds to Daniel's self-reproach at having been stubborn, "I'm stubborn too." Does Nora's "stubbornness" account for her resilience? Have you found the greatest successes in your life from being stubborn or from being flexible?

I believe Nora's stubbornness contributed to her resilience but I think her passion and commitment to science and medicine were the underlying forces behind her resilience.

I don't agree with the characterization of Nora as stubborn. She was thoughtful, strong willed and determined. These are all positive traits.

I don't necessarily think that Nora was stubborn. She was definitely resilient, and some might want to call that being stubborn. Her resilience came from her love of medicine and very strong desire to achieve results from her experiments. I think it takes a combination of both being stubborn and being flexible to truly survive in life.

As several people mentioned, I don't think Nora was stubborn. She was more resilient and determined.
For me, I find more ease when I am flexible. If I get stubborn about something, I usually end up losing whatever it was I wanted. Then I'm incredibly disappointed because my attachment was so strong.

As other people have said I do not think Nora was stubborn instead determined and resilient even if challenged and even when roadblocks held her back and as far my ability to achieve, I owe a good part of it to assertiveness and persistence but listening to advice from others.

RE: Does Nora's "stubbornness&...

I don't see Nora as stubborn, more committed to her view, which can be pretty firm. Maybe that's the same thing? I am flexible to the point of being "Gumby" which isn't always good but the success I have achieved has been through collaboration and willingness to embrace change. But many different approaches can work.

Nora was not stubborn--she was dedicated, persevering and determined. She knew the constraints that were placed on her legally and she did everything she could to work within those parameters so as not to cause trouble for the Drs who were allowing her to learn or for herself as a matter of fact.

I didn't think of Nora as stubborn. I thought she was a strong woman (especially for that time). I also thought she realized her skill level and knew that she could be successful as a surgeon. I don't like when strong women are categorized as stubborn.

I agree with the general consensus
Women who are smart, dedicated and have opinions are almost always described in negative ways. I like to think of Nora as an incredible smart woman who was seriously committed to learning medicine!
