RE: What did you think about Nora's...

I thought it was wonderful that Nora spoke up for herself even though it resulted in her being banished and disgraced. By Nora speaking up, another wonderful opportunity opened up for her to go to Italy to freely study medicine. The only way we can make progress is by people taking risks, no matter the consequences.

I applaud her decision. She knew the consequences of speaking out and accepted them willingly.

It was a brave thing to do considering she could end up in prison.

I LOVED it. She didn't want to take part in the lie. I was waiting for her to speak up and glad she did!

It was a brave action on her part, and had , as it turned out, a wonderful outcome, attracting the attention of Dr. Perra and opening up her Italian opportunity.

It was the right decision for Nora to speak up. Had she not spoken up, she would have no achieved her dream. It is always a good thing to know your worth and speak your worth - it may be uncomfortable, but when the dust settles, it is worth it.

I was so glad Nora spoke up for herself - it truly would have been a big letdown to me if she had not. It was great to see the risk paid off!

It was a brave decision on Nora’s part and would have been for any women during the time. She could not be part of the lie no matter the outcome for her which turned out a positive outcome including meeting Dr. Perra and the door he provide to her medical studies in Italy and the road for the rest of her life if successful.

I agree with Carrie that Nora's decision was brave. Yet she seems to be comfortable flaunting convention or perhaps simply being oblivious to it at many points in the book, e.g. in her meeting with Daniel's parents. But in the occasion of her speaking up, she certainly had more on the line in front of people who could make or break her professional future.

Gutsy girl! She risked herself and her Mentor-that part worried me. But, she needed to speak up. Not for herself or her career but for the good of medicine and the advancement that their surgery represented. If her love was truly for the medical profession, then she could not sit by and not speak up

I agree with Katherine's response. Nora knew she must reveal the truth and weighed the consequences before speaking. She knew she was on the right side, societal practices of the time "be damned"!
