Nora originally thought when Daniel arrived she would not have place in the clinic and Daniel expressed skepticism about the role she had played. But their love and abilities in science and medicine brought them together intellectually and emotionally creating a foundation for love.

Nora did NOT dislike him initially--as a matter of fact, as I recall, she was quite taken with his good looks at his arrival. What she did feel was fear at his arrival. She was worried that as a doctor he would interfere with the work and status she had before his arrival. Knowing her actions were illegal and that they could cause problems for him is discovered, she was afraid that he would either stay but demand that Dr Croft end her work or that he would go and reveal her involvement to others.
Once they started to relax and he began to see her talent as a anatomical sketch artist, first, and gradually as a practicing clinician he began to appreciate her devotion, talent and interest in a field he loved. This mutual exploration and study brought them closer and eventually led to a more emotional connection

I agree with Katherine. When Daniel and Nora did the hernia surgery together, that for me was when they really bonded, and the love grew from there. Daniel became protective of Nora, not wanting the secret to get out about Nora practicing medicine, and made the wrong decision to involve Harry, BUT from that point on Nora knew she could trust Daniel not to betray her. They couldn't love each other until they trusted one another.

I agree with both Katherine and jodyh. After Daniel and Nora established a sense of trust, they were able to move forward in their scientific and romantic endeavors. Once Daniel learned that a lady could get her hands bloody and still remain a woman he could respect, their love was almost inevitable.

When they first met the author showed us an initial attraction in small ways. The tension between them grew with the added fear of discovery of Nora practicing medicine and the close physical proximity they had with each other which was not allowed in "polite society." As they worked together and shared knowledge the respect between them grew along with their feelings for each other. Great tension in this story. I applaud the author.
