How does Nora and Harry’s socioeconomic background affect how they are treated by other people?

Daniel comes from an upper-class family while Nora and Harry come from the working class. How does Nora and Harry’s socioeconomic background affect how they are treated by other people?

Although I did see this condition in certain parts of the book - what jumped out more readily was the entire man/woman dicotomy.

I agree with madmaria that, yes, class differences are absolutely secondary to the ways that women are marginalized and practically ignored in Victorian society, which makes Nora’s ambition all the more remarkable, even unthinkable, for that time.

Unlike Daniel who came from a family of wealth Harry and Nora come from working class families and thus they have more empathy for their patient’s pain and suffering because of the struggle they have to overcome especially the women who come to them for medical care but empathy as well something women in Victorian times receive.

RE: How does Nora and Harry’s ...

I've heard that class is very important in England, more so than in the U.S. I had that in mind while reading this book. Daniel could have been depicted as a real snob but he wasn't. He was friends with Harry and, while Daniel had doubts about his friend, they seemed to be more about Harry's character and not because of the difference in their classes. When Nora was snubbed at the market, class didn't enter my mind, only that she was being treated that way because of the "scandal."

I didn't see any class distinction at all--except maybe when Daniel's parents met Nora. Actually, I was sort of amazed that Dr Croft's practice seemed to cater only to the working class
