I don't think either relationship was going to work since both women didn't seem that invested in their respective relationships. I don't believe Christie fell back in love with Mike. I think she was lonely and wishful thinking that Mike may break up with Jamie and fill the void she has.

No, Lou's relationship with Donny was over long before they split up; she didn't love him, nor he her. In the case of Christie and Mike, they made the right decision years before, and I really don't think Christie fell back in love with Mike (if they ever really were in love, not just infatuation with sex thrown in). Christie is loyal to Mike in that she believes in him and wants to help, and she's at loose ends at the moment of the shooting, but really, she is just having a fantasy about Mike; she's not in love with him.

I think Lou's and Donny's relationship was doomed. There was no foundation to keep it going. Christie and Mike should have tried harder as a couple to communicate and keep it together. What the family went through was very traumatic and most couples can't overcome the issues. Christie and Mike were too young when they were together and it was easier to give up than fix it. No I don't think Christie truly fell back in love with Mike. She still feels for him and wants to help him.

The two couples both seemed to care about each other but were not really good matches. I don't think Christie fell back in love with Mike. I think she was flattered that he came back to her when things were rough. It made her feel superior to Jamie when she had always felt she wasn't good enough .
