What do you think of the title, Things You Won't Say?

What do you think of the title, Things You Won't Say? How does it relate to all of the characters in the novel? What "things" do the characters avoid saying? Do you think this title fits the novel?

The title is very appropriate for this family. Communication is not a skill for Jamie or any other member of her family.

Good title. After the shooting of the teenager, Mike started questioning himself. The fact that a gun was not found at the scene after the shooting put Mike's career in jeopardy. Then he felt that Jamie thought he had shot an unarmed kid. He totally withdrew.

I thought it was a perfect title. If Christie and Jamie had been willing to say the things that they wanted, the co-parenting could have gone so much better.

Great title. Communication is key for any type of relationship to avoid resentment, disappointment and surprises. Situations would have gone much differently had there been open communication amongst them all.

Excellent title. Communication (or the lack thereof) is an issue for every character in this novel. Everyone of them has things they won't say, even when open communication would save a situation. Christie and Lou are the ones who speak their mind the most, and they seem to be the two characters that no one else in the novel likes very much. Small wonder that they become friends in the end. Each must have felt like it was her against the world in this particular cast of characters.

Fits the story completely. No association of anything dealing with emotions by the main characters.

Very appropriate. You can't assume your family members know where you stand just because they love you and you love them. We aren't mind readers. You have to be open and specific because that's what you want in return.

Perfect ! What was unsaid was the underlying pulse in the book.

It was a perfect title. No one in this novel said what needed to be said - they all expected that the other person - husband, wife, ex-husband, mother, etc - would just know how they were feeling and thinking. Things would have been so much better if they had just talked!

The title certainly works and pertains to each of the three characters. Lack of communication and expression of emotions is what was tearing the family apart.

As others have commented the tile is very appropriate because it addresses the lack of communication within the family. I thought it was a good title and I didn't have any trouble seeing how it tied to the book.

It conveyed the true story perfectly. There was totally dysfunctional communication going on throughout the book down to the brother of the slain boy. If he had just "said" what happened, none of the anguish would have gone on.

I thought the title was effective on two different levels. First it captured the inability of all the characters to communicate effectively with each others. Second, it caught the dynamic of situations in which you simply can't say what you are thinking because of the impact your "real thughts" could have if they were made public.

The title fit the book. The characters didn't speak out when they should have, which happens all the time in everyday life. Communication is key to relationships.

I found it to be a perfect title. The lack of communication between the characters was what lead to the demise of their family.

RE: What do you think of the title, Things You Won't Say?

The lack of communication between the characters made the title most appropriate. It also spoke to the fact that one must be sure before speaking off the top of your head - especially when it comes to race relations.
One slip and it could brome a riotious situation.
