Do you think Christie, Jamie, and Mike work well together in co-parenting Henry?

Parenting is a major theme in the novel. At one point, Christie says of Henry: "He wasn't just the most important thing in her life, she thought. He was the only thing she'd ever done right" (page 117). Do you think Christie, Jamie, and Mike work well together in co-parenting Henry? Do you think it's ever stressful for Henry to split his time between two very different households, with two sets of rules and expectations?

RE: Do you think Christie, Jamie, and Mike work well together in co-parenting Henry?

I thought Jamie, Mike, and Christie worked well co-parenting Henry under the circumstances. I imagine it would be rare for a man's ex-wife to be on very friendly terms with his new wife, but the three of them obviously all care about Henry. Though many of Christie's life choices weren't in the best interest of her son, she still desired to spend time with him. However, it seemed that at least part of Christie's desire to get together with Mike again was intended more to upset Jamie rather than because Christie truly wanted to be with him as a family.

They did okay. If the lines of communication were more open, it would have worked better.

Overall, I think the three of them did quite well parenting Henry even with Jamie dealing with her jealousy of Christie through the years. He seemed to be a well adjusted kid sharing his time between the 2 households.

They seemed to be doing the best they could under the circumstances forced upon them. It would have been more desirable to have been a more cohesive unit before a crisis like this happens, but realistically, there are few instances where people have thought through these personal situations and thought ahead to what would happen if a crisis arises.

Henry didn't seem to have hang-ups or major problems. Although he wasn't a huge character in the book, his parenting showed well.

Coparenting is fraught with possible potholes. I think they did remarkably well. The parents managed to keep their own insecurities out of Henry's vision . They all had Henry's interest @ heart.

I think that Mike wanted to be the best father possible and that's the reason that the co-parenting worked so well. If it was mainly up to Jamie or Christie, it would not have been as successful.

It seemed to work well for them and Henry appeared to be quite happy with it.

I think they did ok given the circumstances, as others have mentioned, Henry seemed to be fine. It is pretty hard to co parent and not have negative emotions creep out. I admire Mike for maintaining contact with Henry because so many fathers put the priority on their new families. In this case, it seemed like Henry felt very included in his blended family.

Yes I do. Parenting kids nowadays is hard in an intact family let alone a divorced family and I think the three did the best they could. Each parent had their strengths and weaknesses.

They did very well co-parenting as Henry appeared to be fairly well adjusted. Christie, Jamie and Mike had Henry's best interests at heart in spite of what their differences might be. Parenting can be a challenge, especially with ex's involved.

I think so-the bottom line was that they all loved Henry and wanted the best for him. He seemed to be a good kid and felt loved and cared for by all of them. I think Jamie was a good step mom to Henry. She and Mike were great parents to all their children. Christie was a bit of a wild child, but she loved Henry more than anything else. She felt like he was the biggest accomplishment of her life.

I think this story-line, like many of the others in this book, was underdeveloped which makes it hard to really answer this question. I think it seemed like they initially were working well together but obviously that fell apart during the story.
