RE: Did your opinion of George ...

No. I have studied George Washington from childhood. This book provided more context for a man that has earned the respect of all.

I have always respected Washington but realized he was an even greater man than I thought. He was a man of principle and honor. He believed in what he was fighting for and always put forth his best effort.

I have always respected Washington and now even more so. The book made me understand why there is such a myth around him. We could use more leaders today with Washington’s principles

My excellent opinion of him was only enhanced. He displayed such outstanding qualities. It calls to mind the lack of integrity in some recent leaders.

I admire George Washington as our first president but did not know much else about him. His dogged determination and stick-to-itivness really is to be admired especially in the face of such a daunting adversary.

I had a good opinion of George Washington but this book has deepened that appreciation.

No, it did not. I have always studied George Washington and admired him. He was not a perfect man but he was a man for the time and yet would not be king. I will say that I gained a much broader perspective of him when I read the book Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar and The Return Of George Washington by Edward J. Larson.

I believe I have to come to admire George Washington even more than previously. He was an ordinary citizen who met the challenge to become an extraordinary citizen in the annals and foundation of our country.

I have always admired what he did for this country by stepping up and leading when others would not/could not step up to lead this country. This book gave me a greater appreciation of his moral courage, along with the depth of his tenacity and selflessness even when he knew that the cards appeared stacked against him. It’s one thing to lead a war for a year or two. It’s quite another thing to hang in there with the same level of grit and passion for 8 years.

I admire George Washington more now than before reading Meltzers book. This story(which I was unfamiliar with) is another example of the challenges the General faced during the revolutionary war. With each new challenge, he led to a solution - some solutions were just easier than others and sometimes multiple solution attempts was necessary.

I haven't really read much about Washington - this might actually be the first one - so my knowledge of him was limited to what I learned in school (over 40 years ago!). It definitely humanized him for me, and I suspect I wouldn't have liked the man in real life - too rigid. But he was what the colonists needed, and I admire his willingness to take on such a huge responsibility in spite of knowing he lacked the experience.

My previous knowledge of Washington's actions already had my admiration. After reading The First Conspiracy I feel I have a deeper understanding of Washington and what was tasked upon him.

RE: Did your opinion of George ...

Like many readers, my appreciation of Washington’s integrity increased with reading this book. I now more clearly see how stories illustrating his honesty, such as the cherry tree story, were so popular.
