Wavy interacts with a number of girls and young women close to her own age (her roommate, her cousins). In what ways do you think they are more emotionally healthy or emotionally less healthy than Wavy?

I think Wavy is more mature then many of those girls and young women because she has been forced to be to survive. I do not feel that she is emotionally healthier, however. A human does best going through various stages of emotional development that are age appropriate and in a safe, loving environment. Wavy was forced to skip steps and I do believe those missed steps will show up as she goes through life.

Wavy doesn't have the innocence of the other girls or the naïveté. She was damaged from her mother's rules, but she was not deluded by how wrong they were. Her biggest failure was in believing she was dirty and bad. The other girls, particularly the cousin who squealed to Aunt Brenda, were not as confident in who they were like Wavy was. She acted out of jealousy and spite, but grew to regret it. Wavy couldn't really relate to girls her own age because her experience was so different. They had no common ground, no basis for understanding.

Wavy was forced to be mature in some ways as she prepared meals and cared for her brother. She also had to get to school on her own accord and seemed to recognize that education might be a possible path out of the horrible life of her mother and the drug-dealing "friends." Wavy's college roommate was less mature but more mature than Wavy's cousin that seemed to want to score points with her mom (Wavy's aunt) by being a tattle-tale. Unfortunately, Wavy mistook sex as love even though it did work out (more or less0 for her in the end.

Amy (Wavy's cousin) - more emotionally healthy: she has the benefit of a more stable home life, she seems to see her mother as a manipulator. I am sorry to say I don't remember her squealing on her cousin. I have a good feeling about Amy. Maybe this has to do with the last chapter more than previous chapters.
Lisa DeGrassi (Wavy's 3rd grade teacher) - less (!!) healthy - I am remembering the party scene where she was taking drugs and drinking. Ironically, I found that more appalling than the relationship between Wavy and Kellen.
Dee (one of Liam's girlfriends) - less healthy - how Dee could even be interested in Liam is a mystery to me. However, I was impressed with her being willing to take Wavy to her Aunt's when it was necessary (I think she did this twice).
Renee (college roommate) - equally healthy - she stuck by Wavy when it mattered and also accepted Wavy despite the fact she did not talk much.

I don't think there was a lot of emotional "health" on Wavy's part, but she was forced to be more mature. The other young girls couldn't relate because they didn't have the same experiences as Wavy. But I don't think it that makes them emotionally healthier. Take Renee, she struggles with her eating and weight. Given that her mother seems to find issue with her appearance Renee seems to be under pressure to change her appearance. It's not necessarily healthy.

Wavy's experiences were brutal. Others she interacted with didn't have to deal with the heavy hitting issues Wavy did, hers was on a whole other level. Wavy's experirnces made her a tad bit unhealthier but others were troubled as well and dealt with their burdens differently but unhealthy nonetheless.

I would not say that Wavy was emotionally healthy. She needed the support Kellen gave her and could have been more damaged by her mother. She really had few relations with others her age. Her cousins saw her seldom and had their own lives to live. Brenda could not face the life of her sister. I did find the relationship between Wavy and Renee was the best. Here was someone mot trying to take things from Wavy, and although her life was certainly different she was the most honest with Wavy.
