There are many narrators throughout the novel. Who do you consider more reliable? Who less so? How do you decide whose opinion to trust?

My favorite narrators were Wavy and Kellen because I was able to see the world through their eyes and understand why an unconventional relationship was actually a safe haven for them both. Their narratives were descriptive and drew me into their minds. I did not enjoy Amy's narrative as much because it seemed somewhat detached from her own life. Given her age and the dramatics of the situation, I was hoping she would be somewhat more passionate with her opinions and convictions. Her point of view seemed to lack some of the depth of the other narrators.

I liked the contrast between Kellen and Wavy. He had so many misgivings and worries mixed in with his love. Wavy was pure in her love of Kellen and her brother, just as she was committed to her dislike of her life in general. I don't think we could have gotten the full impact of the story without these two narrators. The other narrators gave us a reminder of what the world thought of their relationship outside their insular world. It worked because we saw so many sides of the story.

Kellen and Wavy are both characters that I will remember and whose point of view rang true and was enjoyable. Roommate Renee's narration is "okay" but did not necessarily add anything to the book; the same is true of the sheriff and the teacher's narration.

Definitely Wavy and Kellen. We really get to see the goodness in Kellen through his narration;otherwise, he was just a member of Liam's posse, which is how Brenda saw him.
It is what we do-judge people on their appearances (color of skin, dress, religious beliefs) and until we see what is in their hearts, we can be sadly mistaken.

I feel that all the narrators are reliable, except Dee. The less reliable possible narrators do not narrate at all: Val, Liam and Brenda to name the most obvious.
I decide a narrator is not reliable if they are 1) on drugs, 2) mentally incompetent, 3) immature.
Dee is probably unreliable, but she does not really figure that much into the story.
I really liked the reliability (and decision) of the judge. She was mature enough to completely change her response to Wavy. When people are willing to change, and admit their mistake, I find them completely reliable.
