For both of them, it was the almost imperceptible narrowing, even squeezing of the world; limitations on freedom of mind as well as movement. Oddly, I think both found that working on it was freeing, at least in spirit.

I thought for October it was symbolic of how women are still closed in by many things, specifically the restrictions on abortion since that was the subject that the project was supposed to be about. For him, I think it was actually freeing because it was the first project that really came from deep within him. Also it was the first time he really got into his creativity and his skills so he could begin to see himself as an artist because others saw him that way.

I thought the project seemed very cool! Joe was able to express his creativity and October was able to express hers...while collaborating. As the bird in the cage, she became Joe (stuck, closed in, withering away, restrained, suffocating) despite wanting to fly away and be free. I think the end result was an eye-opener for Joe.

I not sure what the person who bought the birdcage was going to do with it.
