Emma's postpartum psychosis places her in an extremely vulnerable position, which allows Janice to make a decision that changes the course of several lives. What do you think pushed Janice to make such a choice?

Janice wanted a child and she and Jonathan had been trying for a match for a while. When a child becomes available as easily as she and Jonathan thought, their problems were over - but when it didn't turn out as planned, there was no Plan B. Emma had been Plan B. Janice was desperate to have what she thought had been promised to her.

Desperation. She wanted a child so badly, and she was in an ideal situation to welcome a child into her family; financial security and a stable relationship in addition to their strong desire to have children. Janice saw Emma as someone who was not an ideal parent....very young, lacked an ideal support system, concerns over where the funds would come from to raise a child. I think in the moment of desperation, Janice truly thought she was doing what was best for everyone. However the knowledge of her lie haunted her.

Janice’s longing for a baby was such that when she saw that Emma was in no position to take care of her child she jumped in. I might not have agreed with their actions but having seen the desperation of childlessness I could understand why she did what she did
