How would you describe the nature of Agnes's love for her husband, and his for her? What draws them to each other, despite their different backgrounds?

I think they respected each other and accepted their differences. She encouraged him to follow his passion for writing even though it meant times of separation. She knew he couldn’t survive without his career change. He accepted her difference even though he didn’t always understand it. It was a good match and rare for it’s time.

Agnes sees things about people that others do not. From their first meeting she knew he was special and should not be working with his father. He fell in love with Agnes because she was so different from anyone else and also she was so beautiful. He was treated badly by his father and Agnes was treated badly by her stepmother. So how wonderful that they fell in love and cared so deeply for each other.

Agnes senses things about people and their character. Because of that it wasn't surprising to me that she felt things and saw things in her husband that others didn't realize. It didn't seem surprising to her that he was successful but the degree of his success and an understanding of it was harder for her to realize. Their deep caring for each other was great to read and made this a story of true love and deep understanding.

Opposites attract and often compliment one another. He needed her to give him strength to Persue something his family would never have allowed had he not married her. She could see his potential. She was so different and knew herself and her own strengths and that excited him and made him fall in love with her.

Agnes was a person of visions, healing, and understanding. She was also a loner. He was lonely and involved in a family business he hated. He was his father's puppet. She found someone with potential who was fascinated by her. He found someone who believed in him. They loved, needed, and helped each other in the beginning. She let him pursue his passion, but at what cost to their relationship?

He longed to break free of his suffocating home and the derision of his father. She was a free spirit and her joy in life and love of nature just called to him--that kestrel attracted him as much as the girl who held it. She sensed a warmth and kindness in him that she'd really only had with her brother, Bartholomew. The two of them were almost outsiders in their home when their mother died and the stepmother began to have children. This feeling of alienation only got stronger once their father died. She saw the opportunity to leave and make a place of her own with a handsome, loving, kind man. She took matters into her own hands and her dowry, too, when her stepmother tried to deny her wish to marry him. So, they were both headstrong and determined to succeed. She was braver than he in some ways but her strength and support let him finally assert himself. And, he admired and supported her healing powers and insights into others and their future. They formed a unit in and against the world. A true partnership built on love, respect and support.

Agnes knew she was different from others and I think she also thought that about her husband. This was part of the attraction. Also, both blazing their own paths and respecting one another enough to allow the other to grow even if it meant they were apart from one another.

I feel like when they met, each was looking for an escape - she from her stepmother, and he from his father. I think over time they simply grew apart, living separate lives. They may have continued to feel affection for each other, as well as a sense of obligation, but they certainly weren't life partners.

Opposites attract. Two very different people with special skills and abilities.Agnes could see in people what others could not. Her husband , needed to write and she saw his abilities to create. I think the author accurately portrayed the characters of two definitely opposite people.
