I don't think it was so much the music as much as the devotional the Graces to music and each other that sucked Libertie in. She loved her mother but did not feel the same acceptance in return. She was missing that, and be cause of that she was drawn to the marriage also.

I agree with Navy Mom that it was the Graces rather then the music, but the music was the Grace’s life. Their friendship with her changed her, when before she had no friends. Being in charge of the Grace’s first concert gave her a goal and made giving up her mother’s dream of becoming a doctor easier for her.

There was music in Libertie's childhood, mainly in church or the town festival/picnics. I don't think it was until she met the Graces and heard their music that she was strengthened enough to not follow the path her mothers set for her. It enabled her to take another path.

I agree with Marcia S. The Graces were dedicated to each other and their music. Their dedication showed Libertie an option, and one that she could freely choose for herself. .

Music has a way of enabling one to reflect, imagine, and escape life’s realities. I agree with Marcia S re Libertie’s exposure to music early in life. It is probably what made the Graces attractive to her in the first place. While in Haiti her strong desire to attend the music festival, even when she wasn’t allowed to, is what had her listening so intently from afar and then recognizing the singing of the Graces. As a result she was able to reconnect with them and then get on with HER life.

Music brought Libertie joy, which she didn’t have much of while helping her mother OR studying medicine. She finally found something she was good at when she organized the traveling music shows and it brought joy to others as well.
