RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

Corey is anxious and in fear for his life and Midnight seems less anxious and maybe more inconvenienced.

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

Corey was much more aware of the implications of race than Midnight was. He'd definitely been brought up to know how people looked at him because of his skin color. I'm actually a bit surprised at how naive Midnight was, given his racist father and the other boys in the neighborhood.

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

As a young black man, Corey understood that he wouldn’t be treated the same as Midnight in this circumstance. Midnight just doesn’t seem to “get” the whole race issue that is a big problem in todays society.

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

Midnight has the benefit of privilege. Corey is someone who is thought of as less than because he is black. Corey knows that he has to be more careful with any actions he takes where Midnight would likely get a pass. It's such a horrible part of today's society. Why can't we see everyone for who they are?

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

This speaks directly to white privilege. Where Black parents have to have "the talk" early on with their Black sons about how to act to stay safe in America (don't wear a hoodie, don't put your hands in your pockets, don't talk back, etc.). Corey knew the minute he walked in the store he would be thought suspicious due to the color of his skin. Midnight, cloaked by privilege, thinks its no big deal, that the truth of Corey not actually stealing anything would matter. Midnight wouldn't have known of "the talk" as his family certainly wouldn't be explaining it, nor were his Black friends talking to him openly about their racial differences.

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

Corey was knowledgeable of the implications of race; Midnight was not. Corey had probably been trained to think more differently due to his race.

RE: Corey and Midnight process their run...

Corey was black - he could not take a scuffle as easily as Midnight could. Corey was seen in a different light by any person in charge - young black men are killed for less than what happened in that store. For Midnight it was just an 'incident' - for Corey it was 'life threatening'.
