Did you like the writing format?

Did it bother you that the chapters midway would change from past to present and go back and forth?

RE: Did you like the writing format?

Surprisingly enough, I did like the format. There are some books in which this format is used that I have found extremely off-putting and frustrating. This one seemed to flow really well.

I did not like the writing format for this book. The storyline was disconnected and made it difficult to follow the characters.

I did like the format. Sometimes it's necessary to go back through flashbacks to help show why a certain person acts a certain way.

I would have preferred if the author had noted the date at the start of each chapter. At times I wasn't sure until I had read several sentences whether it was past or present.

I had no problem with the format. I thought it all flowed and was nicely done. I liked that he would tell you something about the past and then go revisit what happened so you could see it through the eyes of the characters when they were young. It do think it took him awhile to tell the story of Adam, but I think it was very well done and seemed like it belonged right where he put it.

Yes, especially the use of the first person with respect to Odette.

I think the author did a good job with changing the voices of each narrator. I did not have trouble switching perspectives which can sometimes happen in books with different narrators. I especially liked how he made Odette's perspective first person which set her apart from the other characters.

I agree with Retired Reader, the format seemed disconnected and too "crowded." In other words, a lot going on with too many characters. I think paring this down would have made it MORE effective.

I don't mind the writing style, this is the way southerner's talk, or at least the way the ones I live around talk, but, as I said in my review of the book, there were just a tad too many adjectives thrown in there and that definitely distracted.

No, it felt disjointed and I spent time each chapter trying to figure out the timeframe.

No, I agree with all the people who did not like the format. It really bothered me. It was hard to finish the book.

I didn't dislike the writing style. I read this in a few days, for hours at a time and perhaps I fell into the rhythm of the story telling, so that it seemed to flow rather easily. However there were transitions that I had to reread because I wasn't sure who was narrating and at what time period.

RE: Did you like the writing format?

I thought the author managed the changing perspectives well. When there was a time switch, I was able to determine quickly what time frame he was writing from. I generally like the use of flashbacks to fill in gaps in the character's history in the midst of a forward -moving story, but they can be tricky and confusing if not done clearly. The comments above indicate that Moore's technique worked for some readers and not for others. I'm on the "worked for me" side of that debate.

I had no problem with it. It seems that many new books are now written from multiple points of view and as a reader I've gotten used to that style of writing.

I enjoyed the format and was drawn in to whatever time the author was writing in. I thought he did that very well.

I agree with Retired Reader and Christie. I did not like the writing format. It WAS disconnected and there was too much going on making it difficult to follow.

RE: Did you like the writing format?

I find that having the chapters vary from the past to the present bothersome at times. At the beginning of some of the chapters It took a minute to figure out which character was narrating.

RE: Did you like the writing format?

I enjoyed the format. Once I figured out who everyone was, I didn't have a problem keeping up with the time frames. I thought that the author handled the multiple perspectives very well.

RE: Did you like the writing format?

Initially I found that I was a bit puzzled - - even though I've read other books that switched narrators and/or time setting. With "Supremes" the transition seemed a little more awkward than in some other books, or maybe it felt that way to me since this simply wasn't one of my favorite books that I've previewed.
