I am reading it now. Not bad, but not something I am anxious to get back to. Will probably rate it a 4/5.

I am shocked but not shocked at what happened.

I really enjoyed it. There have recently been so many books set in WWII that I was a bit hesitant to select this one. However, this story was so different and so very engaging I would recommend it. I especially appreciated the technique she used to bring little known events in American history to light as well as using those as a basis to drive her characters forward in the story. This technique then gains another layer of polish by using elements of that story to enrich and advance the narrative beyond the confines of America.

I go into more detail in my review, so not going to rehash it all here. Overall though, I enjoyed this well enough to rate it 4 out of 5 stars. My only complaint though is that I wish there had been more emphasis on the historical aspects rather than the romance, as there were way too many sections where Fenna spent a lot of time trying to reconcile her feelings for Arie (to me at least).

This book had a slow start for me, but then drew me in as the story continued. I found I was more fascinated by the aspects of war than by the characters. I thought it was an interesting and deep look at the effects of war.

Same for me ssh…a slow start, but enjoyed it as I continued to read.

Loved all the hidden gems “tools.”

I agree with the others, it was a very slow start. I am still reading it, but it is not one where I would say I couldn't put it down.

It was not my favorite book. I thought the opening was too dragged out. I thought it could use better editing... I found myslef thinking- get to the point! I found the opening confusing as somehow I thought it came later, as Fenna and Arie did not get along. IT was ok, but not nearly as good as her first book. Sorry!

This was a good story and I found it interesting as I did not know about the "aids" that were sent to the Prisoners. All in all this was, I think, a good story - but compared to Sold on a Monday it was a notch down.

Bit of a slow start, but it definitely picked up speed as the story developed. As a few other people mentioned, I would have enjoyed a bit more history embedded in the story. I liked the relationship between Fenna and Arie but there were definitely places where the inclusion of historical information might even add to the suspense of the mission itself.

I enjoyed this story the more I read. I loved the way the author combined the "magic tricks" as we think of them with the real "magic" of helping to save our troops.

I so enjoyed the book. Agree with another review that it was slow to start. But once I got into the book, I was hooked. It was a great read!

I am generally not a reader of historical fiction, but this book was enjoyable. IMO, the plot was engaging, but there were some "are you kidding me" moments that were a little hard to get past. I also found it difficult to get into, but I thought that was my bias against the genre.

It was an interesting story but most threads could not sustain momentum and lagged. So I gave it three stars. I also felt some of the emotional elements weakly defended. Fenn leaving Arie, wasn’t supported well.

The title is what drew me to the book. Although it was about WWII, it was also about how as humans (especially women) we resort to so many ways to either deny or hide our feelings, our wants, our desires, and our mistakes. Do we fear the discovery of talents or the criticism of self?

I agree with the other readers that book was initially hard to get into but the more I read the more interested I became in the story and the characters. Overall I enjoyed the book.

I appreciated the research that the author has done for the novel. I also loved the historical fiction and the author's vivid descriptions of the characters, events, plot, and scenery. I would highly recommend this captivating novel to others.

The Ways We Hide is another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ work of historical fiction from the very talented Kristina McMorris. Her painstaking research & abiilty to craft believable, empathetic characters are unparalleled, and grow with each successive effort. I will be publishing a very favorable review, encouraging all historical fiction fans to read the book.

I enjoyed the book, just when you think authors can’t possibly find a new take on historical fiction, something like this comes along. Great read!

I really liked it and thought the research on both her books was so thorough - I learn something new from her books and her characters seem so real to me. Anyway, I am a fan!
