I loved it! It reminded me of a black "Steel Magnolia's."

Loved it! I doubt if I've laughed so much while reading. Every paragraph in the beginning kept the tears rolling and the kleenex following close behind. If it were a possibility, this book receives 10 stars from me.

I thought the book was great. I am a big fan of books that are just about ordinary people. The author does an incredible job showing that seemingly ordinary lives can be fascinating, and are anything but ordinary to he people living those lives. Mr. Moore gave life to every character in the book, each one was vastly different from the others. Almost every character was endowed, and displayed, both good points and bad. All of the main characters were strong and weak, with the possible exception of Odette, there wasn't much weak about her although she was very human. The book did not make me cry, but I was able to feel all of the pain that the characters went through and I think that is a sign of great writing.

I absolutely loved this book. It made me laugh and cry. I loved each and every character. Some I wanted to hug and some I wanted to knock upside the head. But I really wanted to know all of them

I didn't have very high expectations for the book, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought there were some very deep subjects touched on and enough light-heartedness to make it a fun read. I recommended it to my book club and they are reading this month!

I highly recommend this book --- cozy up to it and be prepared for a romp. Incredibly brilliant writing that combines wisdom and a zillion laughs. Artful storytelling is a gift to be treasured by listeners and readers alike and this book is the best I've encountered in some time. Be prepared for a rollicking good read that you'll want to share with friends and family.

Tthis book, while not great literature, surely is fun - which is pretty amazing given the heavy issues it deals with (adultery, divorce, child abuse, cancer, murder, for instance). The main characters, while extreme and quirky, remain believable. The interaction with the "spirit world" provides an interesting way of filling in some of the holes in the story. On the downside, I felt like some of the humor was more mean than funny, and I thought the wedding scene was way over the top.

I did enjoy the book and the intimate peek into the lives of these lifelong friends. However, I found the ghostly parts to be a bit offsetting and would have been happy to have had them omitted. That said, the interaction between the "girls" and the "ghosts" did add something to the story. All in all, I'm glad that I read the book.

I enjoyed it, though I had my doubts about it at first. I wasn't thrilled with the introduction of the supernatural element, as it seemed to be a crutch when the author couldn't figure out how else to move the story along. I came to care about the Supremes, though, and looked forward to my time spent with them.

I did not care for this book. It seemed like a rejected script from a Tyler Perry movie. Some of the scenes are funny but we have all read them or seen them. For me there was nothing original, except including the ghosts. I would not recommend it to others, especially not a good book group selection.

I loved this book. It was fun. It works well as a cozy read or a summer read.I thought the author did a great job with the voices of the women written by a man. It was funny and sad.

I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely going in my library's collection! It was laugh out loud funny, and sad at the same time. I'm recommending it to all my readers. Especially those who enjoyed The Help!

When I read the first few chapters I did not like the book. Somehow the humor seemed forced to me. But as I kept reading, the characters became more vivid and interesting pulling me into the story. I really liked the author's honesty in writing about the problems men and women faced during that time. He didn't try to sugarcoat the characters, their mistakes, or the racial strife that went on.

I found the book to be a wonderful read! I usually look for something to read at bedtime that will be relaxing and fun. Even with some of the serious topics the book discusses, it made for a great bed-side read. I found the theology in the book to be very helpful, and enjoyed seeing how the serious topics played out in each persons' life.

This would be a great book for a church book group or any book group that wanted to discuss the inevitable things that life may throw at you.

Nothing has been mentioned about the dust jacket. It is colorful, quaint, and so very eye catching. I find today's books have covers or jackets often in a haze and often dark.
This jacket is unique to me and adds much to the story. I found myself smoothing my hand across it each time I closed the book, imagining the town and the customers of Earl's.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially since I wasn't sure what to expect based on the title. Once again I was pleasantly surprised that assumptions I had made were almost immediately dispelled. It is a wonderful story about true friendship, fragile humanity and complicated relationships. I know I have read a great book when I can say that I learned something from the narrative.

This book helped me to look back on my youth with joy. It reminded me of how I grew up in a small town in upstate New York where most of the kids hung out at a place just like Earl's. It was called the Cookie Jar, and many of us were regulars, much like the Supremes. It was owned and operated by a Greek husband and German wife who basically "adopted" us much like Earl did with his customers. We were in the midst of all the angst and thrills of our youth, and John and Anna coached, inspired and calmed us. To this day I think if we needed a back room to live in, as Earl provided for Chick, we would have found it at the Cookie Jar. However, since it was a kids' hangout, and people were seen to be smoking out front, our parents cautioned against going there. Needless to say, that is just what we needed to hear to make it a definite place to be. "The Supremes..." made that chapter of my life seem even more significant to my journey into adulthood.

I enjoyed the book and could picture myself there at the diner, in their homes. To me that is one of the elements of a great book, to be able to live among the character, to hear their voices and experience their lives.

I can see your point, retired reader, although this was so much more than a Tyler Perry movie. The characters did not seem to be caricatures which is what Perry's are in his movies. For me, I actually hadn't "seen" alot of the scenes in this book which made it fresh and funny. The ghosts were a little over the top and perhaps unnecessary but I don't think they distracted from my enjoyment of the book

I guess I am the odd man out here but I just did not enjoy this book. I felt as if I had met all of these characters before either in movies, television or another book. It wasn't so much the character, but the way the author brought them to the page that I almost found annoying. I had such high hopes for this book but it just failed to deliver for me.

I really liked this book. I didn't know what to expect from the title and summary, but I'm very happy I had the opportunity to read it. I've read other debut novels that I felt needed a little more thought, but Edward Kelsey Moore's first book, "The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat," was a great read. While not being a love story, it was a story about love. The interplay among the different personalities told a great tale. This book evoked many different emotions from me. My tears flowed from laughing at some of the utterly hilarious scenarios to crying over the sad and heart-wrenching circumstances. I think it would make a very funny movie, and I even pictured actors who could play some of the characters. In my opinion, Mr. Moore did a great job with this book, and I look forward to reading more of his work.

This is a timeless tale of the bonds of friendship, close-knit community told with wit, humor, and dignity as the many characters explore the vicissitudes of life. Fans of warm-hearted stories will relish this well-crafted story that makes you laugh, cry, and feel good about life.

I can see this book as a movie!!!

I usually do not like to compare one writers writing style to another but if you enjoyed this book that you would enjoy the books by Tina McElroy Ansa.

This book was delightful ! The beginning of the book threw me off at first but once I figured out that mom was a ghost I thought it was clever. Not sure where Mrs Roosevelt fit in maybe the randomness of her character was key. The humaness of the characters is what struck me. The characters struggle through problems of everyday life.

This novel just makes you feel good. I cried at the tenderness of the men. James fixing Odette's hair, Lester trying to put Adam's white tennis shoes back on, and Richmond carrying Odette to the "sycamore tree". How wonderful to see such a soft, sweet side to these men and the love they were capable of. Bravo, Mr. Moore.

I agree with the comment made by laurap. It's not great literature but makes the reader content with the humor. I'd be interested to learn how it works out as a book group selection. My group at church would not like this book.

This is one of the best books I have read in the past three years. It was fun, interesting, and insightful. The 60's was a turbulent time in this country, and yet, there was still plenty to enjoy. The trials of those days are certainly not exclusive to any era. I plan to read it again before the year ends.

I was one of the few who really did not enjoy the book, probably because of the writing style. And that made it extremely difficult for me to finish it.

I really liked this book! I was skeptical at first but enjoyed it the more I kept reading. I even had laugh out loud moments, which is really rare for me. Lots of feel good moments too....and I loved the ghosts!

I did not like it. I thought it was boring. I did not find the characters or the storyline interesting. Also, I did not like the way it was written.

I didn't pick out this book at first. I was sent an email and asked if I would like to read it. It turned out to be such a pleasant surprise. Now I love telling others to read it, and they just kind of look at me when I say the title. I tell them I really wish I could stop by and eat at Earl's so they should read it.

This was the most fun I had reading a novel in a long time. The story flowed well, it was interesting and not trying to tell more story than needed. The characters were well-rounded and believable. This is one book I would read again if I ever it get it back from my friends. A person would not feel that time was wasted enjoying this journey!

I really enjoyed it. Any reader who liked Fannie Flaggs work, who enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes or The Help, should like this book. The characters were truly memorable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters drew you right into their lives and I could picture myself at the buffet and smell all those delicious odors. This was a book that made you want to continue reading it all the way through.

The book is an easy read and very humorous at times. I do not think the addition of Eleanor Roosevelt added anything to the plot or story.
