Had you heard of onnamusha before reading the book?

Had you heard of onnamusha before reading the book? Were you previously aware of any women from Japanese legend or history?

I am sorry to say that I hadn't heard the term and am pretty ignorant in general about Japanese history. The book inspired me to find out more, though. Can anyone recommend a historical fiction book about the subject? I've read Shogun, but that's about it!

No, it is new to me as of reading this book. However, I don't tend to read many books based on Japanese history. I'm partial to China when it comes to books set in Asia.

Sorry to admit it was new to me as well. No matter that I read a rather eclectic lot of books I am always learning new stuff from them. One of the many joys of being an avid reader.

I had not heard of this term before, only that of 'Samurai". I haven't read much about Asian cultures so this book has been good for me to read more diversely.

I hadn't heard of it before reading this book. Learning about things such as onnamusha is one of the main reasons I enjoy historical fiction so much.

I had not. I totally agree with Lindsay, I LOVE historical fiction because of all the new things I learn. It is like getting a history lesson and pleasure reading all wrapped into one book.

No, I was not familiar with it. I haven't really much about Japanese history. I have read quite a bit about China and India. I look forward to reading more about Japan as it is one of the final countries I would like to travel to.

Yes I have. I am a huge world lit reader and this term was introduced to me long ago.
