What were some of your favorite lines from this book?

“I would not let a man who knew the value of nothing make me doubt the value of myself.”

I would be Medusa, if it came to it, I resolved. If the gods held me accountable one day for the sins of someone else, if they came for me to punish a man’s actions, I would not hide away like Pasiphae. I would wear the coronet of snakes, and the world would shrink fro me instead.

I don't if I would call it a favorite but this one is so hurtful.

"Ariadne, Minos barely spoke of you! He had lost his legendary miscreation and he had had lost his prodigious inventor. What on earth would he care for the loss of a daughter? You brought him no prestige; you could command no fear on his behalf."

The most acute example of this in the novel is Pasiphae. Rather than confronting her husband, King Min for his actions, Poseidon, the sea god, drives Pasiphae to commit the act that result in her giving birth to the Minotaur, Asterion. Minos is embarrassed, but uses the Minotaur to his benefit. Pasiphae, who was blameless, goes mad.

There are numerous examples through history with it continuing today. How often do we read of female victims of sexual assault being blamed for their actions rather than the male attacker, denied justice in the court system, vilified in their social circle and on social media, and committing suicide because they were failed. How many women still experience an inability to move forward in their careers because they are women? How many strong assertive women are still labeled "bitches" for taking the same actions or platforms as a man, who is considered a "good guy", in the same position? We have progressed greatly, but there is still more change to be made.
