Which was your favorite setting?

Which was your favorite setting: Crete, Naxos or Athens?

I thought they were all rendered beautifully but I loved Crete, the descriptions felt especially vivid!

I liked the description of the unfolding of the island of Naxos, which changed depending on what was happening to the lead character.

I liked Crete, sounds like a booming place! Naxos, I believe, was a beautiful place run by the manipulation of the gods.

I haven’t been to Crete but I’ve been to Naxos and Athens. It’s easy to envision from the ruins in Athens what a bustling metropolis it was and how exciting it must have been to live there. But I prefer Naxos, a quiet, serene island even today. I loved the description in the book. It sounds idyllic, away from the maddening crowd

Naxos, definitely.

I loved the peacefulness of Naxos as it was described, especially as it bloomed to life. I could almost smell the fragrant blossoms. At the same time, I need a bit more action on occasion. I loved the description of Athens during the festival. I think that due to the tyrannical way in which Minos ruled Crete and the madness of his wife, I was not impressed so much by the beauty of the castle or grounds. It seemed like a dark, unhappy place. it would hard to be happy living in a place filled with so much fear.

Naxos, perhaps because of its peaceful and healing effect on Ariadne. Crete is what drew me to this title, as I have been there—but the author wrote so convincingly of its hidden terrors that like Ariadne I was glad to leave it.

I didn’t find setting to be very compelling in this book. It seemed much more character driven. That is not a complaint, I just remember the people more than the places after finishing the book.

I loved the peace and tranquility of Naxos, until Ariadne discovered the rituals. From that point on, it was tainted by death. But before that, it spoke to me.

I have mixed feelings about this question.I loved the natural beauty and apparent serenity of Naxos, but I was also drawn to Crete because I could remember the palace so clearly from my visit there. The red pillars and the dolphin frescoes were especially vivid.

Naxos--especially as it comes alive under Dionysus and as he and Ariadne explore together.

I enjoyed the setting of Naxos, especially after Dionysus arrived. The natural beauty, the serenity, the solitude were all very appealing. Crete, or at least Minos' palace, literally sounded, and I suppose smelled, like a slaughterhouse.

My favorite setting was Naxos because of its physical beauty and that is where Adiadne blossoms and comes into her own.
