I do think Ginny had evolved. She chose to stand up for herself, to do what was right for her. She self-advocated. That took courage and understanding, which she did not have in the beginning of the book. Maura, on the other hand, devolved through the book from a caring, loving adopted mom to a paranoid, cruel mother. She has a long way to go to redeem herself. They started finding their way back to trust and connection, but it will be a long journey. I was not surprised that Ginny stayed in the end, but I am not entirely comfortable with the idea. Maura and the therapist let her down in so many ways.

I think Ginny matured a bit. Coming to terms with Krystal being six years old and no longer a baby would have to change her way of thinking, bring her more into reality. But she and Maura will both have to work to learn to trust one another.

Maura had to know what she was getting into when she and Brian progressed from fostering to adopting a special needs teen. I found her biological mothering instincts a tad extreme, but at the same time, this was her first time being a biological mother and her hormones must have overrode her sense. I feel as if she was coming back to her senses as she saw that Ginny was growing as a self-advocate, as a communicator, and, finally, as an invested member of the family. We see both Ginny and Maura showing willingness to access their wells of strength.

The reveal of the Baby Doll as an actual human baby presented the perfect opportunity for Maura's evolution. Patrice acknowledged how momentous this discovery was but Maura could not let go of her perception of Ginny as dangerous towards babies. I witnessed Maura's attempts to evolve through Patrice's comments and even Patrice was skeptical of Maura's willingness to trust Ginny. As for Ginny, her evolution seemed to peak with her decision not to go with Gloria and to, instead, return to her forever home.

I think at the end of the story both Maura and Ginny were more of a "work in progress". I think Maura was more accepting of Ginny, and showing her that she could be helpful was a positive sign.

Both Ginny and Maura have evolved. Maura letting go a bit and Ginny doing as she was asked to do. One day at a time.

I agree with Teachiz and dorothyh. The evolution has just begun for both Maura and Ginny. They now have an opportunity to grow a relationship with each other and with Wendy and to become a real family.

I was surprised by the ending. I anticipated that she would run off with Gloria and although their life would be dysfunctional and possibly still abusive, she would be more content tethered to her mother, aunt and baby sister. Or I thought the Moons would send her away to school or perhaps even terminate the adoption, a sad truth that does exist. I was happy to see that Maura had been able to open her heart and Ginny had learned to accept their love and the rules that came with life at the Moons. I did not, however, feel that this family was now settled or safe from future outbursts. If this was a real story, Gloria, Crystal, Krystal, and Rick would all be in and out of her life, bringing confusion. I also don't believe Ginny's epiphany about Gloria will overcome all of her scary outbursts and poor decisions.

I don't know that I think Ginny evolved. But I think she moved on - her brain wasn't consumed by baby doll which allowed her to focus on other things. Given the way her brain works, what will become the next thing that consumes her. At least she is in a more healthy home environment which should help the focus be positive. Maura, no real evolution, but some understanding, a softening of her heart. I give some of her paranoia to hormones and as she got healthier and Wendy grew stronger, she was able to work better with Ginny.

Knowing that Ginny was capable of taking care of Krystal as a baby, feeding her and changing her diaper, caring for here, protecting her, I'm could see her potential to connect to others.

Ginny was trying all along in the book. The Forever Parents thing upset me because this was her third set of Forever Parents and I think that phrase should have been banned. Maura was trying, but she was the adult and should have been more prepared then she was.

They both evolved, but they were going to have to make more progress eventually. As Ginny learned to accept baby Wendy as a sister, she would need to learn more about sibling relationships rather than caretaking relationships. Maura seemed to be evolving in the right direction having the advantage of being and OK adult to start with. I felt her panic and overprotecting Wendy came more from a post-partum depressed state complicated by Ginny's autistic inability to truly express herself.

I agree with jenniferj, I was a bit surprised at the ending. I was glad that she didn't run off, but I expected her too since that seemed to be her goal for the whole book. I also wasn't sure where the adoption was going and thought she might get sent away to school. I think Maura will take some time to gain trust and deepen her relationship with Ginny. The eternal optimist in me hopes for a good outcome for all of them.

I do not think they were ready to be mother and daughter. Ginny was just happy to have a baby to take care
of. I was not surprised at the end. I did not think she would go back to her family.

With the enlightenment of the aging process and finally speaking up for herself she was able to make more informed decisions. So yes, she evolved into a better version of herself. She still has to work on her impulses and rationalizations for doing bad things and what to do instead in stressful or emergency situations. Maura on the other hand was a mess. She was hot and cold on all sorts of issues and has a long way to go to find balance in her family life. I wasn't too surprised by the ending because most people prefer a happy or positive ending and I think the author knew that too.

I’m not sure what I expected at the end, but the revelations that occurred along the way weren’t going to result in a neat package tied up with a bow. Ginny has traumatic experiences from Day One of her young life, and her short time in the Moon family wasn’t smooth, either. Maura might have believed she was strong enough to parent a special needs teen, but she fell apart before her baby was born. As it turns out, she needs as much counseling as Ginny. The Moon family might make it together, but only with regular counseling from someone qualified to deal with all the moving parts. Evolution? Maybe a little. No happy ending, though, only a hopeful one.
